CHARACTER BACKGROUND
Afton Riordan Lee, known as Rio, was born in Melbourne on 10 October 1992. He spent his childhood and school years in Melbourne and moved to Jakarta due to his undergraduate study. After graduating from the Jakarta Institute for the Arts majoring in Film Studies. In 2019, he continued for the degree of MA in Ethnographic and Documentary Film in University College London.
He is the son of an Ambassador of Korea in Indonesia, Lee Nam-Il and, heiress of Norton Enterprises, Julianne Elise Norton. His family is complete by the presence of Areaston Edenver Lee and Adelaide Laisha Lee. His brother, Eden, is known as the unwanted child. Afton heard a lot about the story of his parents did not spend their time enough for the young Eden so that his grandmother took care of him until they took him back to Melbourne. His sister, Ala, is known as the princess of the family. The tragedy that happens between Eden and the family unites the bonds stronger than before because of her.
Young Rio used to not care about the surrounding, remained taciturn, tend not to say very much, in a way that seems unfriendly. Otherwise known as a cheerful and playful person when he talked to his closest ones. Besides his family, the only person that he could talk naturally is his first love, Keinara. She was his girlfriend, the one who introduced him to the importance of climate change. Her influences have made Rio to be known as a straightforward person when it comes to climate change. They both are working on the same documenter film project that collaborated with Going Green Jakarta to create a documentary exploring the effects of climate change in Jakarta. The project made a huge success. Since the documentary released, he gives talks at the TEDx Jakarta, also got special attention from his undergraduate university to graduate with Cumlaude. Before he went to London, he began to feel her being distant. Her call and text frequency had gone down. She said the sparks between them just doesn't light up anymore. Keinara wanted friendship than having a special relationship, then Rio accepts her decision without questioning why.
